With braces, there are a few foods that are strictly off-limits:

-Carmel (this is only hard-types; other soft, filling kinds are alright as long as they're more liquidy).
-Bubble gum (yes, hard to imagine, but it's true; regular gum is okay, but bubble gum tends to become more sticky inside the mouth - this means no Bazooka, Hubba Bubble...brand names like that. I recommend Trident and Orbit).
-Ice cubes (this is for those people that chew on ice cubes from soft drinks; the ice scrapes against your braces and tends to be more of an irritant than a treat).
-Chips (now, this is debatable; it is recommended that some tortilla chips can get crammed in between your teeth - I see this as a rule for only extreme munchers; just be careful though - it does hurt.)

Hope this helps you out.

I have braces and I eat just about every thing. Stay away from taffy and caramel, it really does get stuck in your braces. If you want to eat apples cut them up, they are MUCH easier to eat that way, Pizza crust is another food that can be hard to eat when you have braces. Just Rip off a piece. I do chew gum, only after lunch, to get all of the food out of my teeth. I once chewed gum and it got all in-twined into my wires and I looked like an idiot when I talked to people.

well technically they say you shouldnt eat things like popcorn, gummies, chew gum, and anything that could get stuck or potentially pull a bracket off, but from my own experience, I found that as long as you don't intentionally try to jam things on your brackets, you can eat anything and chew gum if you're careful
