There are so many factors...and I'm not a fan of either...not by a long shot.In fact...one of our traditions at our campsite at MIS...we set up a cardboard cutout of Tony and throw beer cans at him till night time is the right time and then we put him in the fire pit...imature?...yes but fans from all over the US and Canada pose for pictures and do mean things to him.
To answer the question...on raw talent and ability...I'm going to say that Tony comes out on top.Comparing stats doesn't cut it...Gibbs can't compare to Hendrick in resources so Gordon has had better equipment for a long time.I'll say Jeff has more brains, respect and savy...but like Dale SR...Tony could muscle a car to the finish with the tires falling off...and he can drive anything...too bad he's a jerk.

Both are great drivers and are totally different from one another. Like you said, Gordon has a few more years of experience over Stewart. He also has more wins and titles than Stewart but I think that Stewart is more aggressive and he has more of a want to win than Gordon. Maybe it's just me but lately it seems like Gordon doesn't have as much passion for the sport like he use to. I'd like to see them both go neck and neck for the championship this year and show some of these new young guys a thing or two.

Gordon was good in the 90's. Stewart is good in the 00's. Gordon has the most accomplishments and if Stewart could have gotten in Nascar earlier then he could have four or five championships already. So based all on that facts I would say Gordon is the better of the two based on their accomplishments.

Tony Stewart,
2006 IROC Champion
2005 NEXTEL Cup Champion

2002 Winston Cup Champion

1999 NASCAR Rookie of the Year

1997 IRL Champion

1996 IRL Rookie of the Year

inducted in the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame

1995 USAC Triple Crown Champion
Jeff Gordon,
2001 Winston Cup Champion
1998 Winston Cup Champion

1997 Winston Cup Champion

1995 Winston Cup Champion

1993 Rookie of the Year

Named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers (1998)

The answer is clear Stewart is the better driver he also has 4 championships they just are not all in Nascar. They are both great drivers in my opinion, however Stewart is the more accomplished racer. Give Stewart and Gordon time and they both might be in consideration for being the greatest Nascar driver of all time, at this point though Stewart with his multiple titles in other series as well as being the first person to win USACs triple crown is the best driver.

Well of course you want us to say Gordon since your a hendricks fan but Stewart is awesome. He's the only driver that can be at the back of the pack and work his way up quickly and still win a race. Gordon doesnt suck by any means but you need to give Stewart the credit that he deserves.

I don't personally think you can go off of stats alone to answer this one. The talent level today is absolutely amazing and keeps getting better which clouds previous stats.

Smoke's a more aggressive driver. When it works, and it does often, he's a tough man for the rest to catch.

Gordon is very consistent, and when he gets his car in clean air he's tough to catch.

Although they are very good, I'd say Tony is the better of the two only because he's able to win in anything with wheels.

Stewart is the better driver out of the two. Gordon is good, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to take anything away. But Stewart, can basically win in anything he races in or on.

Jeff Gordon, because he's won more championships than Tony. And he's won i think 3 Daytona 500's and Tony still has yet to win the 500.

I remember reading an article last year on NASCAR.com that compared them, and according to stats, they are about even when the stats are averaged, since Gordon has had more years.
So I will go with that, they are about even in my eyes too anyways.
Final picks:
NASCAR only: Tied
All forms of racing: Stewart
