Just out of curiousity....when answering questions with a "don't get a tattoo because they're yucky/gross/low class, etc....are you actually hanging out in the tattoo area of YA or are you just finding the questions randomnly from the home page of YA? I'm just really curious.
If you are a person that goes into the tattoo area of YA but solely for the reason of telling people the "evilness" of tattoos....why do you choose to do so?
Just curious...

Dav - so in your opinion...at what point does one "mature" to the point where they feel that tattoos are wrong? The people on YA are of various ages, races and financial backgrounds.

As a tattooed tattooer, I am secure in my decisions and frankly, there is no need to be overly defensive. The haters will continue to hate here - especially the "preachers."
It is fine if people don't like tattoos and many questions allow for them to voice that opinion. Tattoos are not for everyone, and as much as we don't want to see it brought up over and over again, laser tattoo removal is a HUGE business for a reason.
People make bad decisions. I believe (this is where I get hated by other tattooers) that there should be strict licensing regulations nationwide, that NO ONE under 18 should get tattoos (this is where I get hated by the kiddles) and scratchers and home party tattooers should be run the hell outa town!
People will make better decisions about their art. Art they will be proud of their entire lives!

Interesting that Dav cites a statistic but doesn't back it up. I'd be curious if such could be provided.
Rec.arts.bodyart had/has a FAQ which was based on contributor input and mentioned that as many as 1/3 of all people regretted their tattoo. Iirc, two thirds of those who hated their tattoo simply didn't like a tattoo they'd had done. This was mostly due to shoddy work, but I'd assume changing tastes probably figured in as well. That translates into roughly 1/9, or 11%, for whom having any kind of tattoo was considered a bad idea.
There is also an interesting section talking about religion & tattooing. The FAQ is a little out of date, as it is dated 2000. I doubt the statistics have changed that much, but clearly this is just my opinion.

i'm sure a lot of them are repeat tattoo haters but some of them probably just came across the question. i just happened to come across the tattoo section by finding a newly posted question, it is my obsession now!
and to the person who said that most people end up regretting their tattoos once they mature, that is such crap. people regret their tattoos because they failed to think them out or had a bad artist. and at what point does someone become "mature" enough to not regret a tattoo?

I think its based off of maybe low self esteem, or maybe no one listens to them in real life?
Instead of taking a mature approach to life, they come on here preaching of opinions that are not imformative and usually ignorant on the subject.
YA empowers lesser minds.
Oh the joys of human nature. :)

Saw this question in the general section - any question/question of the moment section, whatever it's called. Not subject-specific question area.

The questions come up on the main answer page at random, as they are posted. Anyway the statistics show that a large majority of people who get tattoos regret it later in life..... when they mature.
