"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)
Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.
There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.
With love in Christ.

well i wasn't going to asnwer until i saw some of the silliness posted.... first and foremost -- Catholics ARE Christians, however Christians are not generally catholic. For example - all Mothers are women, but not all women are mothers.
the Rcc has a Pope - yes this is true - a heirachy within the church -- just as the episcopal, protestant, COCIG, AME and even First Baptist - i could go on and on. The Pope hwoever has been around since the denomination began as a direct lineage to St Peter - Christ's aspotle.
THe Rcc had in the past taught people the bible and no, they did not encourage the reading of the bible.... let's see - back on 455 and through to the 1790's most people 1) could not have a bible easily 2) could not read 3) could not comprehend if they could read so with the Rcc Mass we are read two readings, psalms and a Gospel (from Matthew, Mark, Luke or John). WE ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO READ THE BIBLE ON OUR OWN AND HAVE STUDY GROUPS. much to the chargrin of those who feel otherwise or think the "know".
Within the Rcc there ARE various traditions and rituals that have been passed down through the ages. just as with family traditions and oral history. one thing to always remember -- the Rcc was around since well before the internet, printing press, telegraph and even smoke signals. in the bible we are told to hold to traditions. St Paul points out in his second letter to the Thess – stand firm & hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or letter. Here are some scriptures to check out 2 Thess 2:15, 1 Cor 11:2, 2 Thess 3:6, 2 Tim 1:13-14 & 2:2. When the first Christians had disagreements they didn’t open their bibles – they didn’t exist – they held councils and held binding decrees – these councils were those who knew more then the others and they came to an agreement/understanding and thus made a binding decree (acts 15:1-29). The very books of the bible were determined by the Church (Rcc) and didn’t even happen until the 4th century – centuries of oral tradition. Without their determination and will to listen to the Holy Spirit, sent by God to inspire them there would be no bible.
CAtholics know full well -- without God choosing Mary to be the mother to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ - she would just be another nice Jewish girl.
I could expound but i think you get the picture. Pleae feel free to email me if you have more questions or would like deeper asnwers.
God Bless

The Catholic doctrines are created at Vatican, from different leaders of Catholic church while Christian doctrines is from Jesus. Catholic violated the Christian doctrines, they call the priest father and sometimes they call them most holy father; they pray the rosary; they teach trinity, trinity - the Father Jesus and The Holy Spirit is co- equal; they pray to idols; and many more.
The results of the Doctrines of the Catholic. wars. prostitution, slavery, killings, thieves, robbers etc... this happens at any places all over the word that have catholic community. 60 percent or more are catholic involve on such activity, unlike in Christianity they expel those members who are doing that activity.
Mat 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Joh 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Read those verses, see the difference.

There is no difference between Catholic and Christian since Catholics were the first Christians; the only Christians for most of the history of Christianity; and the only Christians Jesus Christ ever intended to exist. There are however great differences between Catholic and Protestant. The Catholic Church is the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ for all mankind, and teaches the fullness of Christian truth just as it did in apostolic times. Protestantism is a hodgepodge mix of unauthorized manmade churches, all claiming to teach the truth, yet conflicting with one another on every point of doctrinal belief. Each denomination teaches a mix of actual truth received from the Catholic Church, and new traditions of men introduced by their various human founders - traditions no Christian on earth ever heard of until a few hundred years ago.

The main difference in that the majority of Protestant Christians follow only the bible.
Catholics follow the apocryphal books, traditions and dogma on an par with the bible.
Some people consider Catholics to be christians because they believe in Jesus while others say hey are not because of their radically different beliefs.

Catholics were the first major organized Christian religion. From the Catholics, many other religions have spawned. These are the Protestant religions, based on the same root word as the word protest. They disagreed with some doctrine or another and splintered off.
So, under the large umbrella of Christianity we have Catholicism and the Protestant religions (Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopalian/Anglican, Methodist, etc.)

Catholics have a church hyrarcy that is very different. Most Catholic churches tell their members not to read the Bible. If you have a question, ask the preist. They also practice a lot of rituals that originated in Pagan Roman religions. Like incense, holy water, latin chanting, etc. They also place the virgin Mary up there right with Christ though the Bible says not to do this.
Other than that...they believe in Jesus too.

Scholars agree that the name "Christian" was given to the followers of Christ.
What about followers of Mary? They are called "Catholics".
Catholics are taught to pray a prayer to Mary called the "Hail Mary".
Technically, it is impossible for Catholics to worship Mary because "worship" has been defined as applying only to God.
The Rosary is an open and graphic worship of Mary plain and simple

Catholics are Christians. There are many different Christian denominations. We were the first Christian religion, we originated in Rome. The church has infant baptism as some Protestants have. They believe in the 7 sacraments: baptism, first communion, confession, Annointing of the sick, Holy Orders, Holy Matrimony, and Confirmation. The church believes the eucharist holds the true body of Christ and they do it every mass. We have feasts: Ash wednesday, Lent, Immaculate conception, and All Saint's day.
Veneration of Mary and prayers to Saints. Celibate priests and nuns. Pope as head of church. We have statues in our churches. This are the main teachings we have.

Catholics worship many gods, most christian relgions only worship a single god, or some worship a trilateral god thing, or three gods--god, jesus, and a holy ghost. Catholics aside from some strange rituals with ashes and beads also pray to Mary, mother of Jesus, and also pray to various saints. They also believe that they can sin and then get pardoned by a priest and then go out and sin again. If you have to practice religion, this is a good one becuase you still can do what you want.
