Hi, sometimes I drink a shot or two of 40% right before going to bed, to get me into a sleepy mood.

I find a shot of 40% can make it a lot easier to sleep some days, even in small doses. The main problem is, i hate the taste of the stuff. You might suggest that i try a softer drink with less alcohol %, but im not interested in that. With lower % you need to drink fair amount of it to get desirable the effect (prolonged drinking of beer I find unpleasant, because of the constant bad taste), and the effects come on slower. i much prefer to drink two shots and be done with it: drinking 40% lets me drink for as short a time as possible with effects that hit almost immediately.

So, my question is: what's the 40% drink that will taste best to someone who doesn't like the taste of alcohol? I'm not expecting it to taste completely non-offensive tasting , just something that will be less offensive on my throat and tastebuds than the greek Ouzo and Jack Daniels i've been drinking :p

Im well aware of ALL the alternatives available for insomnia instead of alcohol and I've tried many many of them, most in different combinations. They are not effective at this time. So please, lets stay on the topic of alcohol.

I would think vodka - but NOT a cheap one (which will burn and taste horrible). Since you only drink 2 shots a night, an expensive bottle should go a long way. I would pick Chopin, Vox or Grey Goose. Keep it in the freezer.

Also, most vodka brands come in flavored versions (raspberry, cranberry, apple, etc) and pack the same punch, so you could try those.

Try: Bailey's on the Rocks Malibu Baybreeze (Coconut Rum, Pineapple & Cran Juice) Peach Schnapps & OJ Pink Squirrel (Creme de Noyaux, White Creme de Cacao, Light cream) Chambord & Sprite Grasshopper (Green Creme de Menthe, White Creme de Cacao, Light cream) Mother Pucker (Sour Apple Pucker & Lemon/Lime Soda) Bocce Ball (Amaretto & OJ) Fuzzball (Peach Schnapps & Lemon/Lime Soda) Chambord Sour (Chambord & Sour Mix) Malibu 7 (Coconut Rum & Lemon/Lime Soda) Anything Frozen (Daiquiri's, Colada's, Margarita's, Chi Chi's, Mudslides, etc.) These drinks use a liquor with a lower alcohol content as their base.

the more expensive the liquor the smoother the taste. Things like Johnny Walker blue label is so smooth. Grey goose is smooth if you like vodka. Remy Martin is good if you like cognac. Petron if you like tequila
