I go through rises and crashes seemingly at random through the day. But, now it seems like I'm spending more time down than up. I don't really have anyone to fall back on for support, and I don't have the money to see a doctor. Is there some nonprescription medicine I can take that can help me a little, or perhaps something I can read that'll teach me how to safely deal with being upset? Preferably, something that won't cost me too much. I want to avoid attracting my family's notice. Turning to someone is NOT an option.

St. John's Wort really does work for mild depression. Exercise also helps. However the way you describe yourself, with these rises and crashes, sounds like you need to see a doctor. Try finding a free clinic. Those rises and crashes sound like cycling, a symptom of bi polar disorder. That is hard to deal with on your own!

Do something that makes you happy. For example, take up a new hobby or sport. Collect coins or stamps. Learn how to play soccer or baseball or something. Play a new computer game or setup a myspace to meet people and friends that can help you cheer up. Read a book and ask the librarian at your local library for some tips. There are also depression hotlines you can call which are free.

i was depressed for years and went on anti depressants wich just madfe things worse in the long run!!!
the thing that helped me the most was getting in to a routine i made sure i got up at the same time every day and did a few excercizes and gradualy i felt better!!!
you need something too focus your mind on it can be anything eg excercize or art.youll probably find you just dont have the motivation to do these things at first, its a catch 22 you have no motivation to do things coz your depressed and your depressed because you have no motivation to do stuff but just think f**K it and just do it or you will be stuck in this pit for a long long time believe me i know!!!!

I would recommend the juice called CIAGA, found on the web site below. It helped my Dad wonderfully. I believe it kept him from being on meds or having a heart attack. Contact me through this system and I will see what else I can find for you. Have a wonderful day and look for the positives in your life, the more you focus on the negative the worse things will seem.

what you need is about an hour per day to walk three or so miles at a brisk pace. Once you get the routine, you won't see any need for depression medicines.

know how to be lowly and empty and receptive and of service

allow your service to be: receptive, yielding, following

you will get what you need, if you have the wisdom to serve and follow, to be open and low

(try the herb: st. john's wort)
