I was considering getting one of the two, possibly, and want the product that is superior in overall quality and stability.

Both are great video editing products but a lot depends on what you're trying to edit. Avid developed Xpress as its own product and acquired Liquid from another company... Pinnacle, I think. For that reason, I'd go with Xpress, since it might have the best support. Otherwise, it depends on the features, performance and price you need to figure out what's right for you.
