What does everyone think of a candy buffet and candy favors. What about personalized M&Ms placed in indvidual wrapped boxs/bags as favors. I'm helping my friend plan a wedding. She wants to do this, but isn't 100% sure I think it's a great idea, but some people think the candy buffet is tacky. She plans on having both a dessert table and a candy table. Some people are germaphobs and don't like their candy all out in the open. She plans on having scoopers for everyone to use when they collect their candy. Do you think people will have a problem with this

Has anyone seen this at a wedding? How did it work and what was the reaction from guests.

I've been to weddings where they do this, and personally I like it. I hate getting those favors that are non-consumable, stull like votive candles, picture frames, shot glasses, personalized CD's, etc. I hate it when couples give "stuff" as favors, because I feel somewhat guilty when I throw it away when I get home, knowing the bride has stressed this decision as well as spent money on it. I've seen the candy bars, more often than not, the candy is individually wrapped, so the germ issue isn't one. The peronsalized M&M's are great too, and she can put those in little boxes/bags and avoid the whole "germ" issue altogether. Most people I know have loved this type of stuff! So I say go for it!!!

Yes, I've seen it done at weddings and it goes over big! Just keep a few things in mind 1-Make sure the caterer uses fresh candy (or it will stick together and become a blob) 2-make sure the candy is kept in closed jars (for the germaphobes) 3-make sure they have scoopers or tongs 4-make sure there are little containers that guests can put the candy into to take with them 5-make sure the caterer keeps the candy jars constantly refilled (they will get empty fast) and Last, but not least- pick candy everyone will love like M&Ms and stuff like that.

I think if you keep the candy covered and iced to prevent possible melting, especially if anything has peanutbutter or chocolate, would be good. Put the scoop to the side of the item. Germaphobes shouldn't have a problem with that. I love your friend's idea for something different. BTW: I do a great deal of mail ordering. I've had a catalog come in the past that sells mainly in bulk or unit---there are a few things sold individually, but not many. This catalog is generally around 105 + pgs. long, and if you go from approximately page 60 on you'll see the wedding /party favors I'm referring to. Go to: www@orientialtradingco.org. (I'm not sure if "company" is spelled out or not, sorry!). They can help you with the costs of the favors and possible ideas too. Good luck, and please tell your friend that I wish her well in her new marriage!

I personally like the idea of a candy buffet but i think paired with adessert table as well its a little too many sweets when you add a wedding cake. I would go with just a candy buffet or dessert table not both. maybe have little bags with the couples imitials and date on them to be filled with the candy and that can act as the favor.

This webiste shows some nice ideas

I saw it on Whose Wedding is it Anyway, and it turned out to be a big hit. It was done at the reception of a very formal wedding. Everybody loves candy, and it adds a bit of whimsy to the formality. The germaphobes don't have to indulge, or you could box some, like you mentioned. A candy table will be very colorful, and I honestly think it would be talked about for years to come.

I think it's awesome! I went to a wedding this summer and they had a candy buffet. We each got plastic "chinese take out containers" to fill with the candy that they provided--mini peanut butter cups, sour patch kids, M&Ms, mini hershey's bars, nonpareils, fruit slices, lollipops and more.

EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE loved it! The adults were worse than the kids--we all tried to get the candy fast before it was all gone (even though they had plenty of refills).

It was an amazing idea--the guests loved it, it was a great favor that everyone could enjoy (trust me, no one wants another bottle opener, keychain, mini photo frame, or candle).

Tell her to go for it!

wow thats a lot of sugar. I like the idea of a candy buffet but I also agree with the germs. It probably would be better to do the MMs in little gift boxes. It sounds like its shaping up to be a really nice wedding

I think a candy buffet is adorable. I wish I knew about it before I got other favor stuff. I wouldn't go with the personalized M&M's though, just for cost reason. I looked into them for my favor boxes & they were very highly priced for a small amount.
