Red and Hurt are two key words that say somethings not normal. Of course I never considered piercing a belly button "normal" anyway. Have a Dr. Check it out.

If it's red and hurts it could be either irritation from being jostled around a little, infection, or allergy.

Irritation and inflammation, if it for example got caught on something, should go away by itself in a day or so if you keep it clean.

Infection is the same, if you start cleaning it really well and often it should go away. Even if you've had it infection-free for a long time you can get random infections if you accidentally introduced bacteria to it (eg if you let someone else touch it).

If it stays red you might have developed an allergy to the metal, and you should try switching to titanium jewellery. Titanium piercing jewellery is available at more tattoo parlours and even in stores like Claire's, and it is almost impossible to be allergic to this jewellery. In my experience titanium seems to reduce the number of infections too for some reason.

There is always the possibility that you have an allergy to whatever they used as ornamentation. Like, nickel alloys make me break out, get red..and (this is my ears)...sometimes drain clear fluid. This could also happen with a navel piercing. Be certain it's 14-18 crt. gold or platinum. If not, just keep it clean with anti-bacterial soap and a little neosporin..or other antibiotic ointment. It should clear up soon.

It will hurt. Leak pus. and hurt like hell! You should keep it clean with dial soap everyday. try to keep clothes from rubbing it if possible.

It should have healed in this long.
Redness around it indicates infection. try cleaning it with rubbing alchohol and show it to your doctor.
