Acid reflux is a pain in the ***. Along with taking medication, it's really important to watch what you eat. Stay way from caffeine, red sauce, chocolate, acidity foods, even smoking can make it worse. I personally like Prilosec because it lasts for a full 24 hours. With Zantac, I could feel when 12 hours were up. I never had any side effects.

there are many treatments: Antacids (Tums and Rolaids)neutralize the acid in your stomach and provide prompt relief of symptoms. H2 blockers (Tagamet HB 200 and Pepcid AC) block stomach acid production and provide relief of acid reflux symptoms. Proton pump inhibitors are a highly effective treatment for heartburn due to acid reflux disease and are used for long-term treatment. They control stomach acid and relieve heartburn. ZEGERID is the First and Only Immediate-Release proton pump inhibitor, providing rapid release of the active ingredients and continued 24-hour acid control. Also, certain foods may result in heartburn symptoms more than others :citrus fruits (acid bigtime), chocolate, drinks with caffeine (coffee and soda) ,fatty and fried foods, garlic and onions, peppermint, milk (stimulates acid), spicy foods, and tomato-based foods (spaghetti sauce, chili and pizza). Try to consider: If you take medication, take it only as directed. Elevate the head of your bed; reflux symptoms are most bothersome at night (keeps the bad stuff down) . Try not to overeat and avoid late-evening meals (don't eat within 3 hours of bedtime). Try to drop some weight if needed. Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing. Try to stop smoking, it reduces esophogeal sphincter pressure. I hope this helps. good luck

I've tried them all and the best one (I have a severe case) is Zantac 150. The others have long term side affects like lapses in memory (Tagment) or possible bowel issues such as chronic constipation (Prilosec).
