Catholics between 18 and 59 should fast today by eating only one full meal and two smaller meals that together do not add up to a full meal. None of these meals should contain meat. On Fridays, Catholics over the age of 14 should abstain from eating meat.

This is a form of self-sacrifice that is part of Lent. Meat is something we eat with evry meal and it is a sign of how wealthy we are. My abstaining from meat, we begin to know what it feels like to not be able to afford meat.

Yes it is true and it applies to all Christians. A fast is a personal act of devotion. The ancient Christian Churches commanded the faithful to observe a period of not eating meat during a period called Lent which traditionally starts on Ash Wednesday and goes on for 40 days. The significance of the 40 days is the remembrance of Jesus' retreat, prayer and fasting in the desert.
