You should wait to eat until the Novocaine wears off. Should be about 3 hours. Chewing when numb and you take the chance of chewing up your own tongue or cheek. I have seen it happen many times. But you can drink. I don't know what procedure you had should not use a straw if you had any type of surgery.
A protein shake or a Jamba Juice would do the trick. It will give you some pep and keep the tummy from growling until you can eat without taking the chance of chewing up your cheek.
Good Luck!

It's not a good thing to eat when your numb, Just wait until the Novocaine wears off. Then you can enjoy what your eating. It's no worth the pain if you chew your check or tongue.

It is wise to wait till the swelling goes down.
What happens is when you eat, you can easily bite down on the cheek and not know it.
After the Novocain wares off you will then fill the pain and maybe a little inside flesh will be gone.

Yes you can eat, but it is going to be messy! Imagine a dribble glass, and you get the idea. also, you may be more prone to biting the inside of your mouth, which may not hurt now, but will hurt later. Give it a little time for the Novocain to wear off!
