Go to www.download.com and from the left hand menu select antivirus and spyware ( or something like that, it'll be obvious ) then you will see a part on the page with a link to the best free software where you can download from. I use Avast and Spycatcher which are pretty good, i can also turn off the p2p filter with Avast so it doesn't slow downloads.

i know someone else has said this but i have tried a few of the free anti virus soft wares including avg but i have found avasti to be the best for ease of use and automatic update of its database

look for AVG free edition. Completely free. Good enough. works fine for me for the last eight months. Also Hitman pro. But avg is better.
