I am just about 36 weeks pregnant with my first child. I have a doctor appt. tomorrow, I am just asking on here to see what others have to say. My fiance just got offered a great position with his company, but it means he has to leave the state for 5 weeks to start training, and unfortunately he'd have to leave 4 days before my estimated due date. Do you think my doctor would have a problem inducing me before he leaves, to ensure he can see his first baby being born and spend at least a few hours with her? I would be 39 weeks, which is considered full term..I just didn't know if it was rude to ask my doctor.

Its not rude to ask your Dr. You are the pregnant one with your first baby after all =o)

I don't see a problem with having it done but its really up to your Dr. and what he thinks. With my first, I was due on the 23rd of Feb. and I wanted her out (pregnancy was so uncomfortable for me from the day I found out to the day she was out). My Dr. on the other hand wanted me to wait at least a week and see if I would go into natural labor. Within 5 days I never dilated any or had noticeable contractions so he went ahead and had me come in for induction on the 28th.

Maybe you'll go into natural labor before hand and if not, I hope your Dr. will agree to induce so your fiance gets to see his child before he's off for training.

Good luck and Congratulations =o)

Talk extensively with your doctor before getting induced. My second child was induced at 37 weeks and I swore I would never ever do it again unless it was an emergency. He was induced because my water broke, but I will not let it happen again. Talk to your doctor about doing some of your own inducing. i.e. walking a lot, having sex, stimulating your nipples. See if (s)he recommends any of those.

No way I know some will disagree with me, but I think thats just fine to ask your doctor. the minute i hit 37 weeks i was crying begging my doctor to induce me, and I had no reason but that I was real sick and felt something was wrong and i wanted the baby out out out! turns out i had severe preeclamsia and was right! so i think that at 38 weeks have her sweep your membranes and you will probably be in labor within 48 hours. good luck!

Ask your doctor. With my first I got induced on my due date and ended up having a c-section (induction raises the odds you'll have a c-section). With my second I had a scheduled c-section at 38.5 weeks.

Ask him and give him the full details about your husb. leaving. If there was a reason to do non-medical reason induction, that would be it!

I don't know if they would do that, but don't be scared to ask your doctor, you're not going to insult them.

Hope everything goes well!
