I have been having a fever for 4 days, since Monday morning GMT+8. Fever temperature is around 39 degrees celcius and it has not come down. On Monday and Tuesday I just ate Panadol but no cure. Yesterday morning I went to the doctor and he said it was not a viral infection but rather a bacterial infection and gave me antibiotics. Today is Thursday morning and my fever is still 39 and I feel very weak. I dont have diarrhoea. I have cough and runny nose but the latter is now under control. My question is, is fever for this long normal, and that too if it's not going down? Please help me.

It depends on the type of infection you have. Bacterial infections take longer to clear up than a viral one.

You can help your condition by taking a tempid bath or shower to lower the body temp. Also, in doing this, will rid your 'outer body' of any bacteria living on the outside. Also, clean your keyboard on your computer by running an alcohol swab over the keyboard. Clean your phone(s) as well for they collect bacteria and are more than likely going to attempt re-infection.

Be certain when showering to wash parts of your body that sweat the most, paying particular attention to your hair. After brushing your teeth, use Listerine which has an anti-bacterial agent in it.

You'll be amazed at what those simple steps can do to put you back on a healthy track. It works for me and my family.

Fevers can last quite a while, however if its due to a bacterial infection and youre on antibiotics it should be going away. You may need to go back to the doctor because the kind of bacteria you have in your body might be resistant to that type of antibiotic, they may want to put you on a different one. This happened to me a few months ago they put me on the same antibiotic 2 rounds in a row and it did nothing. They put me on a different one and it got rid of it. Hope you get feeling better!
