Skip out on the bottom feeders and go legit. Visit your local bank of America, bring 500 bucks with you and ask to open up a secured credit card.
This credit card will allow you to charge up to your 500.00 deposit and after 6 months to a year will be converted into a full credit card and your deposit will be refunded.
This is the best because:
A) Your building up credit with the knowledge you actually have real money at play. Keeps you a bit more "on top of the game" if your putting your money where your mouth is.
B) Gets you a "prime" card that won't be 29.9% from the getgo, won't have 199.00 annual fees, won't charge you 299.00 initiation, won't be its goal to keep you in the dumps.
Just remember because the card isn't a "high risk card" the potential is better - just don't abuse it. I've turned my 500.00 secured card into a 9,000 credit line and gone from 500 to 750+ on my credit scores.
Believe me - the bottom feeds are there to KEEP YOU THERE. Don't fall into the credit abyss, fall into credit BLISS and do things the best you can.
Check out creditboards.com/forums for a great credit builder/repair community.
Paying for credit and doing it right is *MUCH* cheaper than paying for years of agony with the low end feeders. BELIEVE me :)
Good luck and may you have the best credit in the world. Don't listen to the naysayers, you need credit and even if you don't use it will save you TONS when you need it. (cheap mortgage, 0% cars, low cost leases, low balance transfers, discount rates and a piece of mind!)

get a cell phone and pay the bill right on time bt dont run the bill up with text messages and running up minutes on it!
get a high interest credit card and keep the balance paid each billing cycle this means paying ALL the fees! make the card work for you even though you are getting a raw deal in interest if you keep the thing paid for a year then you can upgrade to a better card
get a jewelry loan from zales like a class ring or something like that. they will open an account for students just pay it right.!

You don't have credit? Then I would suggest you get a credit card and only keep your balance at 2/3rds. Make your payments on time.

the old way is to take $1000.00 of your money and deposit it into your bank. Then take out a secured loan with the bank for the same amount and make payments for at least 6 months before paying it in full.
