I would say that it should be. Why would this be a religious question? What kind of relationship do you have with your desk?

Not knowing hat your desk is, it is hard to say.
If it is wood, then in all likilhood it no longer resperates, consumes, reporduces, or excretes and thus from that difinition would not be considered "alive".

Yes, matter is dead always. Alive means, consciousness, you are alive, you are conscious, as soon you die, no more conscious, you will stop speaking.
