"Christina's World", painted by Andrew Wyeth in 1948.

The woman in the painting is Christina Olsen. Olsen lived in Maine and was crippled by polio as a child. She moved through her farmhouse and over her property by dragging her lower body just as Wyeth has portrayed. If I'm correct, she was in her fifties when Wyeth painted her.
