Today's military is much different than it was 50 years ago. Today it seems like more and more soldiers are being punished for following orders. What are your views on this?

Yes, I would. I joined 6 years ago, and I just re-enlisted for another 6 years. Somebody has to do it.

I believe it was Winston Churchill who said,

“The people sleep sound in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”

I am proud to be one of those men.

They don't get punished for following orders, they do more than they were supposed to do, like killing innocent people. But that's only some. Not all of them do that.

Todays military is the best we've ever had, why u ask? Because it's all volunteers and they are serving bravely in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have the best military, too bad they had to send us into a civil war that is unwinnable. I hope we win, we all fight proudly for our country.

Put us against another military, we will win! And we all are confident about that. I don't think we lose anything by leaving Iraq, it's not like we got defeated by a country and their military. These enemies hit and run, we rarely see them, it's a very different war, we are like cops over here. I say let them fight it out.
But if they can find a good startegy for us that will cause a win, i say let's give it a try. All we do is follow orders.

Yes, I would join. My son joined a couple of years ago. We believe freedom not worth defending & dying for is freedom not worth having.

Soldiers are only punished if they follow a leader going against the Geneva Convention or their code of conduct. My son is an Officer but his men should never break the code of conduct when following his orders. That means they would be knowingly be raping or murdering innocent people - no soldiers of opposing countries & terrorists are not innocent people.

Italy is the exception to this rule since they are idiots. The US goverment is not allowing them to prosecute our soldiers. They will not turn them over to Italy. Or as my husband says persecute them. Italian courts are ignoring the Geneva Convention rules completely.

I would not want to join the military. I don't think soldiers should be above the law, but if they're following orders, what else are they supposed to do?? It's like they said on "A Few Good Men," "They're not permitted to question orders."

Were you around 50 years ago? I wasn't. Soldier's don't get punished for following orders. Unless that order is UNLAWFUL then they have a duty to disobey it. Sometimes carrying out orders is very difficult, time consuming and cannot be accomplished within the time allotted. Then overzealous NCO's and Officers punish these people and it's for no other reason than to be a tyrant. I have met such incompetents and it's very frustrating.

Yes. I served for 5 years and would do it all again if I could - except I probably would not have gotten out at the end of my enlistment. I miss it. Not everyone goes to Iraq! Most have to stay here in the U.S. to protect our home. It takes a brave person to do it and being a female makes me even more proud of what I did.

I'm always up for supporting the U.S. But I also do believe that our military could use a little work in some places. But even if I don't join I will always support our military forces.

Yes, I would. It takes a very special person to serve this great country of ours. Many that want to join can not...and many that don't, should. It is an honorable and distinct career and any man or woman that steps up to the plate is a hero in my eyes.
