The boy cat won't just be her "friend" if you get one. It doesn't work that way. If their opposite genders, then they are going to be looking at each other as something other than friends.

It depends on how old the female cat is. Cats are very territorial, and therefore, if your cat now has already made it her territory, it will be very hard for a male cat to be brought into the picture. Also, male cats tend to mark their territory a little bit more, so you may have some cat pee problems around your home.
BUT...what would be even harder is another female cat.
My suggestion is to stick with the cat you have now, and she will be perfectly fine.

Each cat has their own personality. Some are social and friendly with others cats and people, some are not. But they do take some time to adjust. They won't bond over night; just give it some time.

Female cats do. They are more special. But in general all cats need some time alone but they also like the company and they have a play buddy.

You never know until you actually get the cats together. Initially they usually don't like each other. This can last for weeks or even months until they accept each other. Sometimes they never will. Other times, they will be each other's best friend.
