If your budget will take it, how about a small piece of jewellery, like a small gold pendant. Perhaps 9carat for the moment, but on that special day in the future, maybe 18carat gold.
It's up to you what design you get of course, but there's the famous Egyptian 'unk', denoting 'long life', or the St Christopher disc, for example.
Your man will always keep the gift and remember you.

My gf got me a shirt for Valentines day when we'd only been going out a few weeks.
I don't like it, it's not my style.
You'd be better off getting a DVD, something that goes with his interests - e.g. if he likes war films get Apocolypse Now or Full Metal Jacket. Or a comedy.

Simple get him a card don't be too mushy that will scare him but like it's been really great getting to know you this past week hope you have a great birthday looking forward to more fun times. he shouldn't expect more then that since you have only been dating a week and more would make him run for the hills!

Id suggest just a card, its a bit early to be buying presents! But so you dont seem like a cheap bugger not getting him anything suggest to pay for dinner or perhaps just a night out doing what you both want to do
xx

I'd only get him a card - you've only been dating a week. But, if you insist on buying a gift, find out what DVDs have just been released this week and get one of those.

Only been seeing a week? I'd get a card and buy him a pint.

Anything else could be a bit heavy too soon I reckon. It might scare him off.

Good luck

I would graciously accept his invitation to go and have a meal with him on his birthday ,then suggest that I buy the wine and present him with a card.

Buy him a card for sure!

You might also consider buying him a novelty/joke/thoughtful present that costs very little and that isn't too riskay!

Maybe take him out for a meal if he has already brought you out for one and you can see it becoming a relationship.
