I had braces a few years ago. The most pain I felt was when they put in the brackets (spacers) in the back teeth before you get your braces on. Its not to painful to get them put on, your mouth will be sore for a few days but advil did the trick for me. I made sure that I took it on a regular basis for the first 2 days to eliminate soreness and help swelling. Expect a sore (not painful) mouth and be sure to bring chapstick because after all of that stuff in and out of your mouth does cause chapped lips.

No it does not hurt when they're putting the braces on but it is quite uncomfortable in the process. You will start getting pain afterwards due to the tightness of the braces and it's going to be a pain in the butt. You won't be able to eat hard stuff for at least 3 - 5 days. I recommend taking a painkiller before and after putting the braces on. I've had my braces for 3 years now. There is nothing to worry about, they look cool, in my opinion. Good luck! :D

I wore braces when I was a teen and I found that the putting on did not hurt. The problem was after they were on and trying to get used to them b/c I couldn't talk or eat very well for about a day. I had more problems with the taking off.

Everyone is different.

no, it does not really hurt while they are actually putting the braces on but all the stuff they stick in your mouth is uncomfortable and the chemicals they spray in to clean the teeth taste really bad. if you are getting braces for the first time, the real pain will come for the next two days or so. probably the first day you wake up with them on, they will be pretty sore.

When they are actually putting the braces on, the only discomfort is the plastic thing they use to hold your mouth open. After getting your braces, though, they will hurt for a couple of days, and then they will slightly hurt each time you get them tightened- but it's something you get used to. It's not bad.

When they put the bands on the back of your teeth, it hurts, but when they glue the brackets on, it doesn't hurt. When they put the wires on, it pinches a little until the orthodontist trims it. Then, your mouth will be sore for 3-5 days & feel funny, & you have to chew soft foods, like overcooked Ramen noodles, oatmeal, & mashed potatoes. You have to take pain medicine to take the pain away. My best recommendation is Tylenol or Aleve.
