I fear death. It's a completely irrational fear, but I fear it. I know it's based on my basic instinct of self preservation... and I know that I won't feel or fear anything after I'm dead... but I still fear it.

No I do not fear death. For many millions of years on this earth I did not exist. I will live for maybe 70 years which is the twinkling if an eye. Then I will cease to exist once more.

I don't fear death, but I certainly don't look forward to it. It's just a part of the life cycle. I'm not ready to go yet because I have a lot of stuff I still want to do, but death doesn't scare me.

I have to agree with Zero Cool and Sho-Nuff. My survival instinct causes me to fear death, but I'm not petrified with fear. It's a bit like a child who resists going to bed. He's not so much afraid of sleeping as he is that he'll miss something good happening. I am not ready to die yet; I have lots of things I'd like to do and places I'd like to see. My job here is not finished, and I want to enjoy living and holding hands with my wife as long as I can.

That makes no sense at all. That's like someone saying that "If they don't believe unicorns exist, then neither does death." Don't try to answer for atheists, since you obviously don't understand us.

I don't fear death at all. It's going to happen, so why be afraid.

I'm very keen to put it off as long as possible however, knowing that this is my one and only chance. So I look both ways when I cross the road, I eat a healthy balanced diet and get plenty of exercise, and I don't go hunting with Dick Cheney.

As an athetist I believe that human kind is nothing special, simply we want to believe we are special, that we have tasks to perform etc. death doesn't particulaly scare me; since it is just an end, really I shoudl try and do as many things as I can before I do die. REally it would more be the pain and slowness and leaving other people. but as far as I'm concerned when my brain stops working as does my life

I don't fear death so much as the process of dying, I figure I will not be around to experience my own death just the run up to it.

Why should atheist fear death. If they don't believe God exist, then neither does death. the question is why would they fear death. there is no reason, since they don't believe in anything other then their own belief, that nothing exist , that they can't see or touch. They are just afraid they may be wrong about God. But then again, their God is an atheist, who doesn't allow things like that to happen, because they don't believe God exist. So if God don't exist, then i guess their atheist God doesn't either

I don't look forward to it, but I don't live in terror of it. It's the unknown...the ultimate Unknown in fact. No one knows if there is existence after death or not, and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise beyond the dream-states of people who have come to the edge of it and back.

I don't think about death much.
Ppl in my family tend to have long lives.

As long as I get a fair amount of time, I'll be happy.
Like under 50, I'd be really pissed.
I think 75-80 would be fair.
