My condolences on your Grandfathers passing. He was a great American and all of us owe him a debt of gratitude. Your Grandfather will get a funeral worthy of his service. An honor guard will carry his flag draped casket to the grave site, Taps will be played, he will be honored with a rifle salute and your grandmother will be presented a folded American flag. It's a very emotional event. I have been honored to be on the honor guard at military funerals. Even though I didn't know the person I still got emotional. God bless!

I'm from a military family, have been to a good number of military funerals and there will be more. One thing the other posts didn't mention about the gun salute is that they will fire the rifles. Those present will be informed of this beforehand so they won't be caught off guard by the sound.

Also, the flag draping the coffin will be folded in a precise ritual manner and respectfully presented to the next of kin.

My husband died in Sept and he had a military funeral. He wished to be buried in his "dress blues" (dress uniform) so that was what he wore. The funeral was at a Veteran's Memorial Cemetery and was complete with a gun salute and a flag folding ceremony. I was given the folded flag with thanks for my husbands service It was very beautiful and would have been just what Dick would have wanted.

There is a group that will attend the funeral of a vet if invited. You can go to the following web site and on the left side you will see a block that says CONTACT US. Check out the web site, show your parents and see if they would like your local group show the honor and respect he has earned. There are over 80,000 members throughout the U.S. Check out the photo section for different funerals the Patriot Guard has attended (we also do welcome homes for troops returning from Iraq/Afghanistan). We provide a CORRIDOR OF FLAGS outside the funeral home...VERY RESPECTFUL, SHOWING FULL honors to the vet. (I have often seen many of our PGR with tears in our eyes as we stand for the veteran and his/her family.) Then we escort the family and the vet to the cemetery with motorcycles flying American flags (most have the 3'x5' flags flying from our bikes.). Recently a young Marine from a small town in Indiana had over 350 bikes/cars show up with the Patriot Guard showing the honor that young man deserved. (his past summer our local group escorted the person that Cuba Gooding played in Men of Honor and there were over 90 motorcycles, most with the large flags, escorting Master Diver, Master Chief Carl Brashear from the funeral home to the cemetery. You can see some of those photos by doing to the VIRGINIA pictures section).
Please accept our deepest condolences from me and the Patriot Guard on the passing of your grandfather, and an American Veteran. We stand with honor for him who stood for us.
If your family decides not to invite your local group, please pass this info on to others.
God bless you and your family and may He comfort you all in this time of your sorrow.

sure they have the right to say what they pick, on the cemetary durring a funneral no, until eventually they have premission from the vendors of that cemetary. i'm former military airborne and that i shelter the right of human beings or one individual to say whats on their thoughts. regardless of if their opinion is i'm incorrect for doing it. Freespeach is a suitable probability-free by the first change of the U.S. bill of Rights. As a solider I swore a oath to help and shelter the structure of america. regardless of if i do unlike or accept as true with how others use that proper. interior the first admendment it reads "CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO regulation RESPECTING an institution of religion, OR PROHIBITING THE loose exercising THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING the freedom OF SPEECH" It would not study in effortless words speach you pick to hearken to, for it too be obviously loose you should allow the stupid to say what they pick. in simple terms because the individuals of the Westboro Baptist Church have the right to say what they pick does no longer advise you should hearken to it. by paying any interest to them you're in simple terms giving those idiots what they pick someone to observe them.

It's done with dignity that he deserves, a gun salute, the flag drapped coffin, and a rightful burial for one of our own. I am sorry for your loss, as it is a great loss for America too!
