On the back of the last chocolate bar I saw that it had a numeric code which to me wasn't a readable manufacture date or expiry date. How can one decipher the expiry date from this code?

The second reason for my asking is because the owner of a store once told me that dollar stores are able to sell some chocolates well after the expiry date (by years) because no one really knows how to read the expiry date. I was in a rush so I didn't have the time to ask him how to read the code.

Catman - I'm not about to go into a store and start biting their bars to see if they're nasty. Also if I wanted to call the companies I would have. I just thought that if I posed the question to folks on Yahoo Answers that I might get a answer that makes sense. (Dopey-doe on me.)

There should have an expiration date that is readable on the chocolate bar. a manufacturing date and an expiration date should both appeared on any tangible products.
sometimes it look like this 010107 or Jan0107.
It should be readable, if you happen not to see any expiration date, ask the store person. if they don't know the date of expiry, better not to buy it, for you don't know if it is safe.

could not help you.I work in a store as a cashier. They don't know everything.

Bite it if it tastes nasty throw it. I believe that some kind of batch code. Contact the candy company to find out the information you need on that batch.
