What causes browning in lettuce? I'm not really a chemist, so please explain in simple terms.

Does the browning in lettuce reduce its nutritional value in any way? If so, what way, and is that harmful?

i heard brown lettuce, is rust, from cutting it with a knife, that's why there are plastic knives for lettuce

its natural for lettuce to be brown after a long time " old " since there chlorophil " the green substance inside are getting lost
its not harmful !!

oxidation, one thing that helps is if you take out the hard center. But it happens from air. it doesnt affect nutrition

I am not totally sure but I think it is a process of which they are over ripe or something.
