There are many, many "gods" but, there is only One True God, YHWH-- Yahweh(Jehovah), the God of the whole earth and the heavens and yes, the universe.

It is true that there only needs to be one God. If God is omnipotent then he could create more Gods.
Last time I counted I only got up to one.
