I had a cat years ago that was obsessed with licking pictures. It must be the chemicals on the paper or the smooth surface.

Cats are curious!! I have a cat, and she is interested in whatever I do; if I open a drawer or a cupboard, she hurries over to see if anything she might like is there. In fact, she has learned to open closet doors by herself. She also likes to scratch on paper, especially newspaper, and she has a photo album which I made with her own pictures in it -- that also intrigues her. She wants to share my food when I eat. She's the only cat I've ever had, but I think that it is the nature of cats to want to investigate things that appear novel. Cats are also prone to licking, so there might have been a texture or flavor to your photos which appealed to her. My cat is always fascinating to me; I'm still amazed by how much I love her...

Cats don't only like to lick/bite pictures, but that is something that they are intrigued by. If you notice, the cat is rubbing the side of her face against the edges, then licking the pictures, and rubbing her face against. That is how cats mark their territory. I know it's strange.

You will see your cat rub his/her face against tons of different things in your home, mine love to rub up against purse handles. Again, just marking territory.

He/She may have also had a taste of something new, too. All cats react differently to different things. One thing I find really amusing is writing something right next to them, and they just cannot contain themselves with the pen/pencil!

it's probably the smell of the pictures. I don't know exactly what it is that coats pictures but it is probably the coating that your cat is interested in. It's highly unlikely that it has anything to do with what she sees on the picture.

It's probably not the ink, because if the pictures were old, the ink isn't wet. She's probably just curious about the photographs. They're smart, you know, but they don't know what a picture is, and they wanna know.

Sorry, if this is a weird answer, I don't really know much about cats. I'm just guessing.

But, I hope it helps!

She could be attracted to the traces of developer left on the pictures or the texture of the paper itself.

Must have had a certain smell your cat liked! Animals, particularly cats, seem to all have strange behaviors at times.
