Do you mean Periodontal, if so its a gum disease thats cause from lack of good oral hygiene. Basically the tarter build up causes you to lose bone. When you lose the bone you start to lose teeth.Once it starts there is nothing to stop it just maintain it.

Parodontose is more severe than periodontal disease. Because it is characterized by lack of noticeable imflammation it has already done much damage before being diagnosed. You really need to talk to your dentist about things you can do to keep it from progressing further or at least slowing it down. For periodontal disease you need to rinse and brush with hydrogen peroxide to make certain bacteria is being controlled in the gums. It may be there are things like that you can do yourself that will help keep it under control but there has likely already been bone loss. Only your dentist can tell you the specifics for your condition so be sure and talk to him.
