I'm thinking about getting my belly button pierced this weekend. I asked my two closest friends where they got theirs done and they both said the same market in a town near mines and both their piercings are fine although they got it done years ago now. I can't help worrying about letting a market do this kind of piercing I always pictured going to some specialist place but I don't hear of any nearby. If you were in my shoes would you not bother getting the piercing, trust the two friends and get it done at the market or wait and search for somewhere else (although I don't think I will ever find anywhere else)? I'm dreading the piercing because I tend to feel faint after jags and such and felt faint after I had my ears done even though the experience of ears was fine and didn't hurt much. Any advice would be appreciated.

This refers to a tattoo and piercing place in the market. Does it make any difference that they also do tattoos here in relation to trusting them to pierce? Do you think if I ask and make sure they sterilize the needle, etc I would be okay here? Thank you all for the answers so far!

Are you old enough to get your pierced? because where i live we have to be 18 and older or have a guardian.
so when my friends and I were younger we all had to go to like downtown to get it down because they didnt check for age.
just make sure you see them open a brand new package for the needle and have a license. None of ours got infected , make sure you clean it and stuff.
Put neosporin [antibiotic] on it so it won't leave a scar.
Be sure you EAT before you get any piercings because i nearly fainted when i got mines done, it shouldn't hurt too much. I'm just really scared of needles. The place i got it done at numbed it so i didnt really feel it.
jsut be sure you eat and take care of it. hope this helped you & will be a best answer!

i pierced my own belly button three times when i was 13 and in the 8th grade. Now that i look back on it, it seems like some sort of self-mutilation, cuz damn i really hated myself then! but ya know what? I think its pretty cool now. It makes a good story. and YES i did sterilize the needle. There's no one you can trust more than yourself sometimes. But i have to admit, i did take it out cuz i didnt want my parents seeing. I got it professionally done for my 16th bday, and while it was getting done, i even got filmed to be in a commercial for the place i was at

Only trust certified professional body piercers, usually they work in tattoo shops, not 'markets'
If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't get the piercing until you find a professional piercer. Do a google map search for tattoo parlors in your area and check safepiercing.org for certified piercers.

I would wait until i see some official professional place. and if you don't see one in your town, then, while you're visiting a friend or family member somewhere, i would go and look for a place around their area. you're bound to find somewhere safe. good luck!

try a local tattoo parlor. Also, I think they make you lie down to get the piercing anyway. good luck!

i would personally not go to the market to get my bell button pierced. i know you trust your friends and stuff, but i would personally try to find a specialest or seach for a place that you could go to that knows what their doing. but thats just me.

You should call the shop and ask them any questions that you have.
