I'm having a traditional Vietnamese wedding where the dinner consists of 10 dishes. Usually this takes up all the space for a centerpiece, but I don't want the table to be bare when guests arrive. So, what type of centerpiece would be nice and portable where we can move when the food is served?

A small bud vase with one flower in it. Tiny, out of the way, portable if needed, but serves its purpose.

Have a long colorful table runner go down the middle. Simple cadlesticks can be an elegant and easily movable thing.

To add some drama try hanging upside down umbrellas from the ceiling over the table to create interesting visual appeal, draping flowers over the edges

For a centerpiece that literally takes up inches, do balloons in the color of your wedding. Blow them up with helium and attach them to a small weight in the center of the table,

I was actually going to say a bud vase with a single rose in it as well..... elegant but small. Any small flower would be nice. Candles are nice but they can get hot in a small setting.
