Carpets in the bedroom, because 1) it will be warmer and 2) you won't hear other people upstairs clunking about when you are downstairs.

Been there done that both ways. I feel the wood floor option provides you with many more possiabilities for decorating the room and floor using several sizes any types of throw rugs as well as changing the look of the room w/ much less expense

We just put Pergo floors in our dining room and living room areas. Our next step is to put carpeting in the bedrooms and office. We're in a condo on the 3rd floor, so carpeting for us is best, it's warmer and like another answered, it's quieter. I'm looking at 2 local flooring centers and Lowe's and Home Depot to get ideas, estimates etc; the one with the best quality and price will get our business. Good luck with yours! Just remember though, your home will be a disaster area until all is done.

There is one other choice. You could put Pergo in all the rooms and then use area rugs in the kids rooms as well as your bedroom. The nice thing about the area rugs in the kids room is the fact that when they get dirty and stained, you just replace them. As a matter of interest, we have ceramic tile in all of our house with area rugs of various sizes. We really like the fact that the rugs can be removed, shampooed or replaced. The tile is both child and animal proof.

I absolutely love the look of hard wood floors. they work well with just about anything. I really don't care for carpet, it's dirty, stuffy and bad if you have allergies.
