I've got a '01 Dodge Ram 1500 and some leftover money from my income tax return. I've gotten a tune up, oil change, front end alignment, and new tires these last couple days but now I want to spend a bit more on some sort of upgrade. Everything on this truck is stock. I was thinking perhaps a new exhaust system or intake because thats what my friends are telling me but I am clueless as to the benefits of them. I really only want to spend about 300 dollars here (I know, not much, but I am not looking for high performance as its just my daily driver and work truck). So... any recommendations?

you can get s superchip programmer and will help with getting some prefromance out of your engine. you will have 3 settings. 87 towing and prefromance. I have one on my 03 dakota and love it.

the guy talking about the K&N dont believe what he is saying. you cant get better flow and filtration at the same time. you have to give up one or the other. I had a K&N filter on my truck and all it did was coat my TB with a gritty oil film. so it was letting in alot more sand and dirt in the air to go down in to my combustion chambers.

the exhaust is another good mod to do. get flowmasters 40 series. will give you that low throaty sound. I woud wait till you can get a cat back kit and highflow cat. headers are another mod people does.

but get the superchip programmer and you wont be disappointed. plus when you do your exhaust mod it will benifit more from the superchip programmer.

If you do an internet search, you can learn how to make your own cold air intake for about $50, then you can buy a flowmaster or some sort of performance muffler and replace your stock one, stay single in, single out on the muffler to save money when you have it installed. Or check into getting either a superchips computer or Hypertech programmer for around $300, if you search some dodge forums you can find used ones for $200 or look on ebay. Theres not really alot you can do performance wise for only $300. But this is a start, maybe after the cold air intake and exhaust get either a bigger throttle body (check out thefastman.com and get a ported stocker for around $250, he does good work and I am happy with his product.) or get the computer programmer.

Well your friends are right. An intake or exhaust is probably the best you can for about 300. Exhuast kit will probably cost a little more than an intake, but also might give a little more performance over an intake. I dont know for sure, all trucks are different. Oh, and if your lookin to buy online check out www.fourwheelparts.com.

Yes, I would recommend the cold air intake and flowmaster 40 series muffler. You can get the CAI from ebay for $50 and the muffler for $55 as well from ebay.

An upgrade is nice....but wouldn't you rather give your money to World Vision for some kid who doesn't have any parents because they died from aids and is begging for food. Besides if your truck is loud, how will you sneak your girlfriend home past curfew without her dad peppering your tailgate. It is tax deductible and part of it will bounce back to ya.

Get a nice exhaust system. It will make your truck sound nice and you get a few extra Horsepower. Cherry Bomb is a good exhaust system brand that has nice sound. They have quite a few selections.

put a K&N air filter on it , you will get a few more horsepower but way more efficent filtering , hence a longer lasting engine , a switch to synthetic oil next time will help too. nice to see somebody that does not want the moon for $300 .
