I think for younger children the gender of the teacher is irrelevant. The qualities needed to be a good teacher and like-able person can be equally present in both men and women. In my experience, It's not until adolescence that gender becomes more of an issue as the roles of male and female stereotypes are explored more fully, and pupils may feel more or less comfortable with a teacher based primarily on gender.
Saying this, my 7 year old son always seems to perform better when being taught by a man, despite having no preference in regard to the gender of his teachers.

I think female teachers because children would show more respect and be kinder to them rather than male teachers who children think can handle anything, I don't know why. In school a lot of our male teachers couldn't handle the class as no one would listen, a couple of them were made to cry and some of them even left. But then it depends on what age children you are asking about.

It depends on the child. My son right now has a male teacher (he's in grade 3) and loves him. My daughter in primary likes her female teacher...but also respects very much the gym teacher who is male. I think it depends on the child and the teacher.

I'd have to say in Grade School - female, more patience.
Mid & High School, I personally listened to my male teachers more.

I always prefered a male teacher. The women always seamed like they were on the verge of a breakdown. Seriously, I don't know how many had breakdowns at my old school, one even died of alcoholism. I had a favourite teacher, Mr Gibson, he was lovely.

Just asked my kids it really depends on the teachers attitudes, and the kids attitudes of course! One of mine don't care he likes to study, one like's females full stop and the other one's got a bad attitude so it really varies! If and when you meet your childs teacher you'll know, and if your child constantly complains he or she's being picked on then deal with the situation appropriatly.
