I have two feline roommates, Sophie and Max.

Sophie frequently beats on Max. Sometimes she treats him wonderfully, but -- other times, she's quite nasty. He'll get smacked across his furry face just for going near her if she's in a bad mood.

I'd heard of cat-on-cat violence thanks to the public awareness campaigns, but I never expected to be a witness to it. I thought it would've been the other way around -- Max is not only male, but larger -- but apparently any cat can be a victim of violence in his own home!

Anyway, I don't know if it's my place to get involved, but since I live with them, I feel like I have to. (Or should I just get another place and move out on them?) So I've tried to talk to Max.

He got really furious with me for suggesting he go to a shelter, and I don't know why. I thought that was the thing to do in domestic abuse situations? But he was all, "Shelter? F*** you!"

Should I maybe be trying to get Sophie counselling? Help!

you are a riot. you should write books.
i think yes sophie should get counseling and max has to get some balls and tell sophie to knock the crap off!!!
maybe max is cheating on her???
maybe sophie is running around with bubba down the street and wants max out of her life.
oh what a tangled web we weave!!!

maybe just keep max away from sophie for a couple days and see how she reacts. maybe she'll miss him enough not to smack him anymore.
