Hi there.

You're quite smart to be cautious before doing any system restore.

While the wizard for System Restore says it will not cause you to lose recent work, such as documents or email, it's important to understand exactly what will be saved or preserved, and what won't, in a System Restore.

Look at this link for more info:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/expert/russel_sysrestore.mspx

From what i read, the files under My Documents are 100% preserved and undeleted, while other folders are questionable.

Best to backup those itune files to a cd or a seperate hdd (or partition), before attempting a restore. That's what I do when I have to do a restore.

PS. This link gives you the extensions that the system restore monitors and restores: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa378870.aspx

Hope this helps

I've done system restore before and i recommand you to back up your music files on a CD. I would also advise you to turn off your system restore after you are done since viruses and spywares can keep regenerating through the system restore process.

iTune generates a file that is not affected, but I understand "SYSTEM RESTORE" as when you restore your computer to an early date, not when you reinstall Windows XP and erase EVERYTHING, in both cases I suggest you to buy an external drive and duplicate everything. a 500 GB external hard drive costs around $250.00

System Restore rolls backs system registry settings, your files should be ok. Not absolutely certain though.

I wouldn't trust it. I'd backup your iTunes directory (should be doing it regularly anyway).
