Well, I suppose the possibility exists.
He did not get much out of it tho. Of course another possibility is that all the stories about his miracles were made up after he died.
Its not like we have eye witness accounts dated from around the same time. There is a gap of about 100 years between the oldest existing manuscripts mentioning him and his death.
If you look at some of the "legendary" figures in our time, you can imagine how much can be exagerated or distorted.
We have people who believe all kinds of things about Elvis for example and much better communication than they did back then. Several Kings in history had all kinds of stories made up about them.
In the end, it all comes down pretty well to faith, although obviously you can judge the wordly wisdom of his words by yourself.

No he spoke against them and was crucified for it. The scam artists showed up when Christianity became the state religion of The Roman empire. Some say with sooner than that.
There are allot of churches that don't get talked about that are really trying to feed the poor and uplift there brothers and sisters from poverty that are working for peace and love.
