i heard that muhammad ali fought george foreman and when he won by using the rope a dope and george didn't know about it, after the fight, george asked for a rematch and he never took it, while he accepted everyone else's rematch. is this true? why didn't he accept? was he afraid hemight loose? i don't know that much about him and just read it some where.
people say that ali was very smart in the boxing ring, they say in his fights he outsmarted other boxers, no matter how big they were. can someone tell me what was it that he did in his fights that was smart? can someone tell me the fights so i can watch them?? please?? thanks a lot, please explain them to me, i am not being rude or something, just curious, and i know people are quite clever here, so thanks in advance, bye

Foreman did not ask for an immediate rematch he took some time off and was then supposed to get a return match by fighting Jimmy Young. When he lost the fight he retired from the ring.
For the second part. In the Foreman fight he used the shell defense he's learned years before from Archie Moore. He simply covered up and leaned back into the ropes incouraging foreman to keep swinging. He wore foreman down and then went for the kill. The rope a dope style caused Ali to take many more punches than he probly should have in his career.
Beyond that most of his fights were guts or skill. Watch his fight with Cleveland Williams to see Ali at the best skill level of his career. Then watch the Thrilla in Manilla to see Ali survive a fight on guts alone. I would also recommend checking out the Foreman fight as it was also one of the great performances of Ali's career.

I loved Muhammad Ali, I cried when he lost to Holmes. However, he is not the greatest sportsman ever. Jackie Robinson had more importance than Ali. I also look at Babe Didrikson who dominated 2 sports. Billie Jean King was just as big during the same time as Ali and championed women's issues. Edwin Moses didn't lose a race for 10 years and dominated 2 Olympics, it would have been 3 but in 1980 the US boycotted. He championed Drug testing and was responsible for amateur athlete eligibility rule changes. He went on to be a Physicist and Engineer. Yes, Ali is the greatest in his sport and he was a great champion but there are so many out there that are just as great or greater.

Though i dont believe Ali was the best of all time i do still belive that it was foreman who did not want the rematch though he made it look like he did because Ali was the next fight any way. Also the ropeAdope Tec used by Ali is prob why he is the way he is today. The rematch would go the same way because though he made of figured it out Foreman's only ammo was giant baboon swings which Ali would just avoid and take until once again he was tired then be on him.

Ali would have fought him again it just didn't happen. As far as his talents in the ring he was the fastest heavyweight in the history of boxing. Check out his first fight with Liston, the Folley fight, and the Cleveland Williams fight. Later in his career he did have to rely on ring smarts especially against Foreman where he was the underdog. I recommend you watch the Foreman fight because that rope a dope thing is overrated. Ali was in control of this fight from round one and caught Foreman with shots throughout the fight. Ali also had a weakness to overhand lefts one of which Frazier knocked him down with in their first fight. I recommend you watch all three of the Frazier Ali fights because you will see in the last two fights they fought how Ali is watching for the overhand left from Frazier and what Ali did to avoid it. Ali was a great boxer. Good question

rope a dope certainly helped wear him out, but i think ali won almost every round anyway. whenever he came out of that shell he was hitting foreman cleanly in the head. he just had too much handspeed and ali sufficiently good defensively, and one of the greatest ever at taking a punch, that foreman only rattled him once or twice.

Ali was the greatest heavyweight boxer to ever live. A 220 lb man with the hand and foot speed of a middleweight. Maybe the greatest chin in the history of the sport and a refuse to lose iron will.

He did the dope on a rope thing in lots of fights. Also, when he was loosing a particular fight and getting tired, his coach ripped his glove so that they can change it, giving him more time to rest. No question he was a great fighter, but the question is, " was he an honest fighter? Cable plays his fights and recap his fighting history all the time. I just catch it by flipping chanels latenights. You can call the cable company to get more info.

Ali basically made the other boxers wear themselves out in the ring, then he would step in and use his saved energy to beat them.

that fight was dubbed as Rumble in the Jungle and was held in Zaire, Africa.
He is the greastest boxer for me...you can check his previous fights in 'limewire' and see for yourself why.
A very good entertainer in and out of the ring...an ambassador of goodwill...always optimistic of his fights and that is one thing I admire of him most. Many people find him boastful because he talks too much about his greatness. But he is indeed great!
