A dog's mouth is DEFINITELY NOT cleaner than a human! How many of you have a seen a dog brush it's teeth?! Could you imagine how much bacteria and dental disease you would have if you never brushed your teeth? So, saying a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth is a little ridiculous.
Now, all of you start brushing your dogs teeth at home, and we can revisit the answer to this question in a couple of years. :)
In addition, dog saliva does NOT have healing properties - this is a myth/old wives tail. It is full of nasty bacteria and causes infections when they lick open wounds or surgical incisions.

They say a dogs mouth is cleaner, and I think that is mainly because of their diet and if they're given something to chew on (raw hide chews for example, they are good for teeth.) I don't know how true that is but my dogs morning breath is no where near as bad as any human I have known!! It depends on what you feed your dog though I think, if your dog is getting mainly dry dog food then his breath should not stink that bad, however if he is given moist food and/or people food...also if he is not given chew bones then his breath could smell worse. Yeah sure dogs lick their bums and other dogs bums but that isn't going to be a lingering breath problem however I would advise to not have them lick you after that lol.

a dogs saliva is anteseptic-like, and when it licks your cuts, then it is trying to clean it, and is pretty much doing so. dogs can sense when you have open cuts, because they can sense the cemical change, like when someone is about to have a seziure, the bodies chemicals change, and the dog notices, so it barks: pretty good warning system. OK, maybe not the cleanest after liking another dog bum, but his mouth is generally a lot cleaner than the average humans

It's a relative cleanliness...dogs have just as much bacteria in their mouths as we do, except that their bacteria doesn't react well with us. It's not that there isn't any in there, is just that it doesn't harm us.
