I've been wondering. Are dogs really colorblind. Because whenever I use a lazer light to play with my cat my dog always goes after the light.

They are not at all color blind. They do not see colors the way we do, but they can still see colors. They see colors pretty much in one shade....blue, red, black and so on. They don't see shades of colors like pink and light blue....it would just look red or blue to them.

Dogs are red and green color blind, they do seem to be able to see lazer pointers though (probably as a gray dot, not a red one) I think some just aren't interested in it. I have two dogs, if I shine a lazer pointer around one he just ignores it like he can't even see it, because of him I actually thought at first that dogs couldn't see the lazer pointer. I got a chihuahua last year, he will go crazy chasing after a lazer pointer. Just be careful not to shine it in their eyes.

Dogs aren't colorblind, but they do see colors
differently than we do. Dogs don't seem to be
able to see reds and greens very well, so their
world probably seems to be in shades of yellow
and blue. For a comparison of how you and a
dog see colors

Almost completely, they can only see red & green.Plus, they would still chase it if they were completely colorblind.

Both dogs and cats are color blind. It comes down to rods and cones. Cone receptors pick up color, they have run tests and know which ones pick up what color. Animals use all or mostly rods, so their eyes don't register colors.
