The south of Iraq is calm because it is for the most part "ethnically pure." The only parts of Iraq that have significant violence are those places with large Sunni and Shiite populations. The insurgents are fighting eachother for the most part, so in places such as Basra (where the Brits are) there is very little violence. The fact that they are leaving is because of that, not due to their competency on the battlefield.

id say that they are both trained pretty well and didn't really even know that the brits were leaving, thats to bad.
