Body dismorphia is an insidious disease and I'm not sure you can go it alone. Counseling is best.

But If you cannot afford it - there is a book called either 'The Golden Cage" or "The Gilded Cage" that deals with these issues. Also a book called, "What's Eating You" deals with this subject. There are a lot of books you could read - search your local library or book store.

They may help but not as much a another human one on one who can lead you to find your own problem.

Good luck, Sweetie.

I had a friend, albeit an old man who smoked for years - he had a stroke brought on by smoking and the doctors told him if he didn't stop he would die sooner rather than later. From that day he stopped and never craved or smoked another cigarette.

Simply put, you know you are damaging your body. Do you wait for a serious warning sign or do you employ huge amounts of will power and channel your energy elsewhere.

Live and let live I say.

Never say never, but the odds are completely stacked against you. It is a disease, and it is very hard to overcome without treatment. You can go to chat rooms that are specifically designed for people with your disorder-just watch out for the morons that have nothing better to do than get on them and say smart @$$ things. Good luck, and I hope you do well.

well, you can go to college and get a degree in psychotherapeutics. You can get all the material ever written on the two syndromes and see if you can understand the jargon and what is meant.
Or you can see a therapist, many do offer help on a sliding scale basis.

You have to change your way of thinking and the first step is admitting to the problem. Don't try to change things too long if it is not working because this is a dangerous condition.

You can't. It would help so much to talk to someone or maybe try some medication to help you through it. It's a tough think to stop on your own. Good luck!

I'm not saying you can't do it by yourself.

I just wonder how you are sure it is what you think it is without an official opinion....

I don't own my own rubber stamp so I talk to the guys in the jackets who do :)
