They never get out, so they're not there to be reformed or converted, and most of them aren't there for doing things most people would consider evil... they were just of the "wrong" religion! So is Hell just there so God can get His jollies looking down at us poor miserable damned burning in the flames? Is God a sadist? If not, where's the purpose of it all?

The God of Abraham is a very well known sadist.
Hell's his greatest acts of evil but not his only one.

Ok umm, you might want to get your facts straight before you start posting stupid little things were you act like you know what your talking about and frankly you don't. So to clear this up for you because obviously you are so wrong 1. God doesn't send people to Hell 2. You have a chance to convert or reform on Earth and if you miss that chance thats your fault, God is a man of second chances but when you die he can't help it he doesn't send you to Hell, you send yourself. and how would you know whos in hell buddy? Let me tell you something. I don't know what you consider wrong, but if I were to create a whole race of people like God did and give them a planet the least you can do is except them to ask to live with you eternally. Is that so much to ask? Um no. so your little thing about the "wrong" religion to God thats a slap in the face, its like I'm your child and I'm smiting you. The purpose of Hell is to seperate the believers from the non-believers, whether you go there is your choice or not.

God does not send people to a place of fiery torment from which there is no recovery.

HELL:Definition: The word “hell” is found in many Bible translations. In the same verses other translations read “the grave,” “the world of the dead,” and so forth. Other Bibles simply transliterate the original-language words that are sometimes rendered “hell”; that is, they express them with the letters of our alphabet but leave the words untranslated. What are those words? The Hebrew she’ohl′ and its Greek equivalent hai′des, which refer, not to an individual burial place, but to the common grave of dead mankind; also the Greek ge′en·na, which is used as a symbol of eternal destruction.

Hell is the common grave of dead mankind, so I guess we all go there when we die, but the bible teaches us that there is the hope of a resurrection...

Acts 24:15: "and I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."

John 5: 28 & 29: "(John 5:28-29) 28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment"

Note this also, the Bible says that...

Romans 6:23: "For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord."

so if someone dies, they have paid for their sin. They are resurrected to life withour sin, and are judged on what they do after they gain accurate knowledge of God, that is why the second death, spoken of in Revelation, means everlasting death from which there is no resurrection, anyone that has the second death ceases to exist forever, but they are not tormented in a fiery hell!!!

the definitely be conscious means homicide, no longer kill. A cop would ought to kill a nasty guy, yet he can nevertheless sleep at nighttime understanding he did the right element. Now, if you're asking even if we ought to continually be in different international places combating for "our" interests, then i'd ought to say i in my opinion ought to no longer evaluate that proper. In WW2, did the French resistance have an criminal responsibility to kill occupying Germans, or did the Germans have the right to kill the French terrorists for destabilizing the country? for sure we were raised to say that the French were occupied, and they were proper to shelter themselves adverse to the Nazis. yet then we've a double commonly used when we are the occupiers. i'm circuitously answering your question because the answer isn't a organic sure or no. What i'm attempting to say is that lots of the wars we were in were political. In those circumstances each and each area are incorrect for combating. in case you do not strongly withstand warfare except in only the most severe of circumstances, you run the probability of believing a persons'' propaganda, and combating for some thing that could no longer proper or in simple terms. alongside those lines, if a Christian is interior the military, to avert this seize 22 subject they must be conscientious objectors.

Perhaps your right. Hell as most Christians describe it doesn't make sense & is not very well supported by proper interpretation. No body, no pain ?! It seems to me it may be a holding place till judgement. or maybe it even went away after Jesus changed the way we are judged. I read in the Bible that Sinners were to be cast into a lake of eternal fire. Uhm that would mean you burn up, your gone, bye bye, no more. It says the fire is Eternal not the torment.

It is not done to "prove" anything...it is just a consequence for their sins not being atoned for. It is too late for them; they made their choice while still living, and for the rest of eternity, their soul will have to pay for it.

But we ALL sin [1John 1:8], and since God is Holy, He cvannot be exposed to it, and have fellowship with us--here on earth, OR in heaven--if we are full of sin. Thus, He gave us a way out, through the sacrifice of His only Son, so those that believe & follow Him have a way out.

You need to stop looking at it from a human perspective, and more from God's. He loves us, an does not get His "jollies" from seeing us burn in hell--rather, it grieves him greatly to see His children choose the world, the flesh, sin & selfish pleasure over what He has clearly indicated to us as something much better.

You could just as well ask: "What does it prove to send a man to prison for the rest of his life, for killing someone--it does not bring them back, nor lessen the pain (much) for the loved ones left behind? What is the point?"
The point is, the murderer is being held accountable for their behavior, and society is being protected from his evil ways. In the same way, those who do not forsake their sins (as best able to), and use Christ's Blood to wash them away, are going to have to deal with the consequences (an eternity of hell) for them, so heaven can remain a "sin-free zone", so as not expose God & His family to it.

Rather then ask, 'What is the purpose of hell', it is much better to ask,'Why would an all powerful, all knowing, and all present eternal God even consider we specks of dust, orbiting around on a larger speck of dust we call the earth?!!
The Bible tell us in the Old Testament scripture hidden in Isaiah and elsewhere, that 'Hades' was created for the Devil and his wicked, fallen angels, and not for man!
The purpose of Hades is to eternally punish Satan and his followers for their terrible sins against God, His angels, and we human beings! It proves that, although God is a very loving and longsuffering God, He is also the judge of all His creatures, and a just God at that. Sin will be punished and not tolerated forever! Praise be to God.
God does not SEND people to Hell as you call it. (Hell is a Greek word for the grave) Sinful, stubborn, unrepentant people who are shown the way out through Jesus Christ, CHOOSE to go there, stepping over the cross of Christ and choosing to reject the saving, loving offer of God through His sacrificing Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who paid the deadly price for yours and my sins on the Cross of Calvary! PTL
The Bible also makes it clear that God gets NO joy whatsoever, out of placing unrepentant sinners in the Fires of Hades!!!

God does not send anyone to hell ~ you send yourself there. You have a choice whether to accept the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, or not. It's a choice you make ~ we have free will.

One day you will face the judgment of God and He will say Why Should I Let You Into My Heaven? If you say anything other than 'because I accepted Jesus Christ and Lord' then you are not getting in.

Your choice in this lifetime affects your eternal situation. If I were you, I would not wait until that time to find out that you are going to Hell. Fall on your knees and call on Jesus ~ admit that you are a sinner and repent from your life of sin. Live for Him, it will drastically change your life...and your eternal.

God does not need to prove Himself with Hell. If He did, He would have sent Jesus down doing the whole sword-spitting thing from Revelation. The purpose of Hell is punishment. A consoquence of actions, or lack of action. Example: If you decide to amputate your arm, its never coming back. You live without your arm forever. The chainsaw was not trying to prove anything by cutting your arm off, it just followed through with what it said it would do... cut anything in its way. This is similar to Hell. If you refuse to agnowledge God, you forfeit your sould to the devil. Its never going to God, becasue you have seperated yourself from God.

Heaven gets cold in the winter. By tossing people into the fire, he keeps the heat up. They sit in a pile if they arrive in summer spring or fall. He used his omnipotence to see into the future, and know how many people would qualify for hell. That is why every so often we get someone like Gandhi to lead us astray and keep numbers up.

Proves nothing. The purpose is to scare others into following your religion, because, 99 out of 100 of them dont bother thinking like you have.
