I have two feeders, one they will eat from but when I take it down and put the other one up they won't go near it. Does anyone know why?

Does it have a smell on it? Like a cleaner or animals?

Bird feeders are best put up near trees especially pine trees so they have a place to go in case a cat or any other intruder comes along . They don't like the open so much. Needs usually to be so many feet off the ground. Different birds like different feed . A water source is a good thing you will attract more birds with fresh water. More birds die from lack of water than feed. If you put your bird feeder near your home you need to watch that they are not to close to the house with windows and if they are hang decals on your windows or ribbon outside if the windows can be seen threw to another window where the birds can see a blue sky they will think it is a thoroughfare. They will hit the windows and be hurt or die. Bird feeders need to be cleaned also feed can go moldy. Also if it is a place where alot of birds come they will poop and ground feeding birds will eat the loose feed and become ill. Best to put something under the feeder that can be hosed off. Hopes this helps I am just learning myself It is worth it you are saving birds life food and water and the rewards are endless I have great scenery and wonderful songs outside

I have several feeders hanging at my house.
Different birds like different feeders.
I have one just for goldfinches.
Another for purple finches and sparrows.
The third is for chickadees, titmice, cardinals, juncos, woodpeckers, squirrels, and all the other birds that come.

Make sure that if you have feeders, they are always there and always have food in it, especially during the winter. Birds are oftentimes dependent on feeders they find. It's not good to play games with them by having food just sometimes.
