Never put butter, oil, or salt on a burn.

When a minor burn occurs, run cool water over the burned area to remove heat. You might want to do that for five or 10 minutes. Don't use too cold of water, as it will cause constriction of the blood vessels and slow the removal of heat. Putting butter/oil on the burn just traps the heat.

Salt would probably just sting-- I'm not sure why you got the idea to use it...

butter is the worst thing to put on a burn. The first thing you do is run it under cold water and then wrap an ice cube and put that on there for a few minutes. Butter will make the burn worse. Any oil products will. Then put peroxide or bactine on it. Let the air get to it if you can or cover it with a band aid. If you use any anti bacterial creams like Neosporin, make sure it is the cream kind and not the petroleum based kind..

OH honey, butter or any oily substance just keeps the burn going. Anytime you burn any part of your body grab an ice cube & lightly rub all over the burn. NEVER EVER PUT BUTTER OR SALT on a burn. If you can't stand the ice right up against the spot, wrap a paper towel around it then place the ice & wrap it to hold ice in place. Good Luck

Butter and salt? What is it, popcorn? =)

No, the best thing to do for a burn is to stop the burn. Run the area under cold running water until it stops the burning feeling. Then put some Neosporin on it and wrap it with a loose bandage. Don't put peroxide on it, it will kill the healthy skin. If it's oozy, you need to see a doctor! If there's blisters, don't break them.

never..... NEVER put butter or salt on a burn! Grease in the butter will trap the heat already in your finger and keep it there... causing more burn. Plus the grease will attract bacteria and possibly causing an infection. After you burn your finger stick it under cold running water. If you cool your finger quickly enough, the burn will be less severe. Works for me all the time

At this point, I would clean the wound the best you can and cover it in Neosporin or another triple antibiotic ointment. Then cover the ointment with clean gauze or better yet a petroleum-impregnated gauze like Xeroform or Adaptic or other non adhering dressing. Over the petroleum-impregnated gauze, you wrap clean gauze.

This should decrease the pain quite a bit. If the wound fails to improve of course you need to get to your doctor. You might want to get the burn looked at anyway if there is any question.

When you get a burn, you need to quickly run the burn under cold water to counteract it. If it still hurts, try putting toothpaste on it, since it still has the burn feeling, the menthol will help numb the pain. Afterwards, put some neosporin/pain relief on it and wrap it up with a bandage.

immediately put your burn under cold running water the coldest you can bare and leave it there for at least 10minutes. with a burn your skin underneath will still keep burning so you need to cool the area enough to neutralise the heat completely, if you leave it under cold running water immediately (i mean 1-2 seconds after it happens) you wont even have a blister, forget butter and all other tales, cold running water is the remedy

I'll ditto everyone elses butter & salt opinion.

You should have run it under cold water for a long time, or held it in a cup of vinegar (relieved my sunburn pain) at first.

Then when the heats off of it use aloe vera or honey. Honey kills germs and keeps the skin moist to prevent scarring and tight, itchy scabbing.
