I have a Golden and Spaniel mix. A little needy but sweet. I have owned Aussies before but not w/another dog. Think I should get one?

if its an adult dog you're getting,
make sure it does well with other dogs and displays no aggression. it also would be a good idea to get a different gender, or if yours is a female get another female. 2 males aren't always a problem, but they could get into conflicts.
if it's a puppy,
be sure to let your adult dog put the puppy in its place, as long as it doesn't go past growling. it's important that the puppy learns that this dog is already established, and if you punish your older dog for growling at the puppy it could just cause more frustration.
also, don't feed them out of the same bowl- this will keep them from fighting over the food.

Aussies are pretty good with other dogs in my experiences because they tend to just ignore the other dog which means they are not the best of playmates nor are they enemies. I would go for it and hope for the best. You will probably know within a day or two if they will be OK. I have seen more problems with spaniels including coming home to a decappitated father and bloody mouthed son spaniel.

I've never owned aussies... but through agility have met quite a few.

Like any dog they should be socialized. It is particularly important to socialize Aussies as pups, because of their high prey drive. I've seen Aussies get a little snappy herding other dogs and the dogs have fought in defense. It depends on the nature of both dogs... however, aussies do have a few high drives and are often quite dominante. If you are planning on getting one I'd suggest adopting a young aussie, so you can socilalize it with your other dog.

They get along fine with other dogs, but some can get a bit jealous if ignored for another pet. If your Aussie sees that he's 3rd in command you, your first dog, then her, the Aussie will soon learn that that's just how the dominance is and will accept it. Good luck!!!

I think it would depend on the individual Aussie. If you are thinking of a rescue dog (which I recommend), they generally will allow you to introduce your dog in a neutral territory. They also tend to rate how well the dogs get along with other animals, and even kids. Good luck.

They should and if they don't ask Pet's mart if they a Dog training class. Your dog may have to be trained, especially if it is a male because of Dominance Issues.
