They threw the yellow. Yellow was thrown when Clint Bowyer's car started sliding back onto the track becoming an obstacle; when the wreck started, all the cars were sliding into the infield and wasn't going to affect the outcome of determining who the winner was.
I would have liked to see Martin win as the sentimental favorite. But he said himself--and I would have to agree--that the race finished the way some folks wish most races would end: nose to nose.
First, people complained about races ending under caution. So NASCAR implemented the green/white/checker finish so the fans who watch and bought tickets to watch a RACE got a thrilling finish. Now people are stumped as to why NASCAR didn't throw the yellow on the last lap, a few hundred yards from the finish line. Make up your minds.
Kevin Harvick won the race. Mark Martin contended and didn't throw a childish fit when he got out of his car. Notice, if Kevin Harvick had lost, the Harvick fans would be posing questions like this. Only when someone's favorite driver loses because they think the rules were compromised will look for problems where there aren't any.

There was no time to throw the caution...besides...it was the last lap...would have been pointless in the long run. Can you imagine the Monday morning, arm-chair pontification if Nascar HAD thrown the caution????
Nice guys don't always finish last...sometimes they come in 2nd place by 2/100's of a second.

Hell yes! What's up with #17 Matt a former teammate pushing #29 kevin. Kevin was greedy and should'of let mark got this one! But it was too late for a flag though.

If it would've been any other time in the race I believe it would've been a yellow flag. I think they wanted to end the race on green. Everybody with whom I work with never really root for any of the older racers, but this time every one of them including myself were hoping Martin would win as the race was ending. I think that shows NASCAR is over-hyping on the youth of the sport and forgetting the one's who made it what it is today. Mark Martin who talked about retiring and came back is still competitive. I don't know if he should've won Daytona or not,but he made the race a memorable one. I hope he continues to race for along time to come.

no i dont think they should have thrown the yellow flag.
if the role was reversed would u people still be crying kevin didnt win?......i think so.
if martins car was good enough to bear harvick, then yes he should have won,as it stands he was not good enough to beat harvick,so harvick won.
deal with it people.

Totally! Martin deserved to win. They should have totally put on the yellow so harvick wouldn't win. But everything happens for a reason. Maybe because it was the last lap they didn't decide to do it.
