I like to hang the curtains at the ceiling and wider than the window itself so it looks bigger than it is, let them hang to the floor, especially in a small room so you have less jumping around for the eye to do.
Keep the curtains plain, no print, and in the same color as the walls and carpet if there is one, the fewer colors and patterns the more restful the room will be. You can use either dark or light colors, just not too bright or neon, that will be hard to live with. Add blinds for privacy and light control. They should fit in the window itself.
That will make your room look finished

I love long curtains, but considering the size of your room (the size of your windows are important) You may need to have something under the window or windows. So short might be better.
The style you are decorating in is important also.

Short drapes make a room look squatty, so use long drapes and hang them as high as possible. Instead of using the 84" panels, use 93" - 95" panels. They will draw your eye up and make the room feel much larger.
