There are a few ways....

1. You can use a pedometer and estimate it based on a certain stride length (1 mile = 5,280 feet)
2. You can use the odometer in a car & drive your running loop.
3. Use Google Earth (see link below for details)
4. Get a GPS (most expensive option...but a cool toy!)
5. You could also jog around a 1/4 mile track and time yourself and use that as a pace estimator (Example: If it takes you 2:15 to do 1 loop..that's a 9-minute mile).

Hope that helps. Have fun running!

Sorry, sweetie. Too many variable. Weight loss is a mathematical equation. If you consume fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight. So, how much you eat will help determine how much you lose. Next, how much do you weigh right now? It takes more energy to move a 300 pound body than it does to move a 100 pound body, so the fat person will actually burn MORE calories than the thin one! Example: Weight 1 Mile 2 Miles 140 107 Calories 215 Calories 210 161 Calories 322 Calories 265 203 Calories 407 Calories Note that you need to burn 3500 calories to lose 1 pound.

no way to tell for sure without a pedometer. If you run at a slow pace, 12-15 minutes. If you're pretty fast..8-10. Assuming you haven't done this before, you're probably in the 10-15 minute range. As you get more practiced, you could get that time down to below 8 minutes.

Mesure your running stride and divide the number of feet in a mile by the lenght of your stride. As long as you keep the same size running stride you will know how many steps to take to equal a mile more or less. Or just have someone drive off your route in a car.

The easiest way to measure the distance is in a car. Either set the tripometer to zero or just use the odometer. Drive your route and you'll see exactly where the mile mark is.

Run until you pass out foaming at the mouth that is about half a mile. Get some water and do it again and bingo.

No seriously if you run about 10 mins you should cover at least one mile.

Drive the route in a car and use the trip meter to measure the distance. Or a pushbike with a speedo thingy.

I would count as I go. But then again, I am an obsessive counter.
I can tell you that there are 5,280 feet in a mile, so if you are running, and your stride is approximately 2 feet, then you would have run a mile when your count gets to 2,640!
Have fun.

estimate using a map. google maps or mapquest would both work fine. if you are looking to find out how fast you can run a mile, go to a local high school or community stadium or anywhere with a track- only then can you really be exact.

but honestly, if you're just training, it doesn't matter if you run exactly one mile, do whatever your ready to do.

Get a step counter if you don't wanna drive. It's pretty accurate in measuring the distance. Or, like everyone else said, drive and measure that way.
