I'm trying hard to understand this one, what is it about evolution that equates in some peoples minds that monkeys should not exist?

Or is this nothing more than trolling (probably)

my view is that these people have some kind of humanistic view of evolution in which evolution means that everything is supposed to be evolving to become like man, with man being the pinnacle of evolution, wrong of course

I have never heard this, but I think it must be because there are no more dinosaurs. They evolved into lizards or chameleons or what not, and so there aren't anymore. So if monkeys evolved into humans, then there wouldn't be any of them anymore. Especially after all these years. And shouldn't we then be evolving into something that looks different too by now? I mean really, how fast is this world spinning?

It's the Christian's floundering for a legitimate reason to disprove evolution and therefore prove the existence of God. It's b.s. Those people rationalize that according to evolution, ALL monkeys turned into humans, therefore monkey's shouldn't be there anymore. That's NOT what evolution states. There's many different species of monkey's. Some are extinct, some evolved, and some ARE STILL THERE!

Some people are scientifically illiterate. That is the main reason.

This isn't meant to be an insult. I'm just stating a fact. I am pretty good at science (Just look at my answers), but if I were to try to argue with Stephen Hawking about M-Theory, chances are that I would be the illiterate one. It simply means that without a journeyman level of understanding of some scientific topic, I can't possibly argue it effectively. Kind of like arguing about the bible with someone who has never read it.

Anyway, one of the many misconceptions about evolution theory is that after one species evolves, the parent species must die out. I admit that at one point, I was also taken by that misconception.

After all, birds evolved from dinosaurs, and now dinosaurs are extinct. But although this is the case with dinosaurs, there is nothing saying that it must have happened. Clearly, snakes evolved from lizards, but there are still lizards.

However there is another misconception that people get trapped into; No scientist believes that we evolved from apes (I know that you are already aware of this.). I fell for that misconception also, long ago, and I imagine that everyone falls for it because of the same reasons that I did: Clearly, apes and monkeys look like they could be related to us (Some of us more than others), and so I just jumped to that conclusion.

The last reason for why people fall for this notion is because of people like "Dr" Dino (Kent Hovind, http://talkorigins.org/faqs/hovind/), who keep trying to argue ridiculousness as scientific evidence for creation and against evolution.

"If monkeys evolved into humans, why are there still monkeys?" This passes as proof against evolution for some.

Anyone who paid attention in high school biology class knows that monkey did not evolve into humans and the theory of evolution does not say they did.

It is either complete misunderstanding or a purposeful effort to discredit evolution.

Monkey's exist because "IF" we did evolve from monkyes it was only A certain breed of them... some monkeys that did not die off (the present day ones) still exist... and "IF" evolution is true then they could evolve into another type of human one day FAR from now... if the planet is even still here...

Evolutionists believe that we came from monkeys/apes. They also believe that the world is millions of years old to. This goes to show that even scientists can be wrong. Even if you believe in the evolution theory, monkeys are still just another species and there would be no reason for them not to be here.

I'm not sure why they would think this, unless they were assuming that every single monkey would evolve. So much for a good public school education. Or maybe someone at their church told them that. When I was 14, the youth minister at my mother's church told me that "the idea" of evolution was the devil's work.

Monkeys evolve based on their surroundings. If they were somewhere where they needed longer arms, over generations that would be possible. Like humans, we evolved from Monkeys because of our surroundings. We may have started in a hot climate, hence the lack of hair we have compared to monkey's themselves. Our ancestors may have migrated to the said hot place while leaving others behind to evolve on their own.

It doesn't mean that. People have a lot of misconceptions about the theory of evolution, including the idea that it means that "we came from monkeys". Unfortunately, most people don't get any formal schooling on evolution even in high school.

I believe the reasoning is that all monkeys must somehow have been pre-ordained to evolve into humans. It just shows a total lack of awareness of the biological mechanisms involved in species evolution.
